Becoming Love: Communicating So You Are Heard, Listening So You Understand

Last week we looked at a challenging topic: When People Let You Down. If you missed it take a listen.

This week, we continue our series on Becoming Love with Communicating So You Are Heard, Listening So You Understand.

I remember something my Dad taught me which has helped me so much – he said, “Assume the best.” For me this means that when I listen I am working to give the best possible interpretation of what someone says.

So if someone says, “I sure need a vacation.”

That could mean:

  1. I need to get away from you!
  2. My work is driving me nuts.

Or,

  1. I love travel and I’d love to go on a trip.

Right?   How we hear these simple words depends on what we bring to the conversation.

How we hear things has a lot to do with the state of our own heart. A heart that is peaceful and open is able to hear the best. When our hearts our overwhelmed, tired or running on empty we struggle.

Join this week in exploring this topic. I invite you to bring a friend. See you at 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM  -Rev. Nicole Reilley
